Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's initial title since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after that period of that year.
Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had caused commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play positively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.
Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
