Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.

Warning: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

This warrior group features Teor (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
