A person who laced candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.

The accused was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

Nevertheless, he disputed a single sexual charge he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

The legal representative, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said items including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.

She said the defendant proceeded to conduct the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities a second time.

She said the man then played the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
