'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of Swansea's epic comeback win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith temporarily wearing a spectator's eyewear following the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range shot from 25 yards, and his teammate immediately slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the crowd to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory capped an incredible recovery given the team had been behind 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The victory secured a fourth-round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who complimented the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the fundamentals and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It feels like they complete every delivery and they are adept at manage and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be alert every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and attention just to keep pace."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in his new home. At Orient he joined forces once more with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was probably a slightly green going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the last several matches, including both legs encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This represents a remarkable path for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his dad, Stuart, also a central player, play for a local club.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he says, chuckling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he transferred from aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

New Environment

This occurs during the early part of the afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Until recently to his new neighborhood, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's dubbed player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the drivers, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to socialize with the teammates but I'm planning to be the next one to drive independently and driving. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on public transport after starting his journey at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
